While both the Cyberster and the Z4 are convertible roadsters, the former stands out with its scissor doors, whereas the Z4 has a traditionally opening doors

The 2025 MG Cyberster EV has recently entered the Indian market, positioning itself as the most affordable all-electric roadster. In contrast, the BMW Z4 is another prominent roadster on sale in India, featuring a 3-litre inline 6-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine. While a direct comparison isn’t feasible given their fundamentally different powertrains, we evaluate these two roadsters from a design standpoint, both in terms of exterior styling and cabin layout.
Front
While both the Cyberster EV and the Z4 feature petal-shaped headlights, the Cyberster adopts a more curvaceous design, whereas the Z4 sports a flatter front fascia. The Z4 highlights the signature BMW kidney grille whereas the Cyberster being an EV, gets a blanked-off grille and an air dam on the bumper.
While both cars get air ducts on either side of the bumper, the one on the Cyberster EV are functional air vents finished in black, whereas on the Z4, the grille and air ducts are outlined in satin chrome.
Side
The MG Cyberster EV rides on 20-inch alloy wheels, whereas the Z4 comes standard with 19-inch wheels, with 20-inch wheels available as an option. While the Cyberster features red-painted brake calipers at the front, the Z4 gets all four calipers painted in either blue or red, depending on the configuration. The turn-indicators on both cars are integrated on the ORVMs (outside rear view mirrors).
What else makes the MG Cyberster EV stand out are its scissor doors, whereas the BMW Z4 has a traditional door opening.
Rear
Unlike the BMW Z4 which gets wraparound LED tail lights, the MG Cyberster EV gets an inverted U-shaped connected light bar along with arrow shaped LED tail lights.
Further adding to the BMW roadster’s sportiness are its dual exhausts, which the Cyberster, being an EV, misses out on.
Cabin
Inside, the MG Cyberster EV gets a jet-cockpit inspired cabin layout in black and red whereas the BMW Z4 M40i gets a rather minimalistic but sporty dashboard layout finished black and beige theme.

The Cyberster EV gets a curved tri-screen setup (includes a 7-inch and a 10.25-inch display for the driver along with a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system). The Z4 on the other hand features a dual 10.25-inch screen setup (one for the driver’s display and the other for the infotainment).

Inside the MG Cyberster EV, the red leatherette-wrapped steering wheel houses integrated controls for the audio system and driver displays. It also includes a rotary dial for launch control and paddle shifters to modulate regenerative braking. In comparison, the BMW Z4 M40i features an M Sport steering wheel, complete with paddle shifters and multifunction controls for the driver’s display and infotainment system.
