Mercedes-Benz Teases C-Class EV with Same Glitzy Grille as the GLC EV

Mercedes-Benz gave a first look at its upcoming electric sedan this weekend as it revealed its platform mate, the GLC EV SUV.

  • Mercedes-Benz is preparing to launch a new electric sedan, teasing the C-class EV at the reveal of the GLC EV this weekend.
  • The C-class EV appears to share its illuminated, eye-catching grille with its SUV sibling.
  • The C-class EV will likely share its platform with the GLC EV and should debut at some point in 2026.
  • Mercedes-Benz unveiled its latest electric SUV, the 2027 Mercedes-Benz GLC-class EV, at the IAA show in Munich and gave the first peek at a new face that looks like it will spread across the German brand’s electric lineup. The GLC EV wears a dazzling grille composed of 942 individual illuminated square dots. A shadowy teaser image for the upcoming C-class EV shows a similarly ornamental front end.Mercedes-Benz

The C-class EV will likely share a platform with the new 2027 GLC-class EV.

The darkened image doesn’t show much, but the light-up grille is clearly visible, featuring a narrow LED strip around the outside border of the vaguely hexagonal panel. Within the grille, there are rows of tiny square elements divided by horizontal vanes. At the bottom, the light show stops, and there appears to be an actual opening to allow cool air to flow to the battery and motors.

Not much else is visible, but we can see a clear sedan shape and headlights that angle downward and contain a thin LED “eyebrow” and an LED element in the shape of the three-pointed star found in the iconic Mercedes-Benz badge. The glitzy grille is optional on the GLC EV—the standard grille has the same look but isn’t backlit—and the same should hold true for the impending electric sedan.

The C-class EV is expected to debut at some point in 2026 and will likely go on sale in the United States the following year. The arrival of the electric compact luxury sedan could coincide with a refresh for the gas-powered C-class, since the current generation first went on sale for the 2022 model year.

The C-class EV will likely share a platform with the GLC EV, which is being offered with either a 369-hp single-motor or 483-hp dual-motor powertrain. The all-wheel-drive GLC EV is expected to return around 376 miles of range via a 94-kWh battery pack. Look for more information to be revealed about the Mercedes-Benz C-class EV over the coming year.

2027 Mercedes-Benz GLC EV Arrives with More than 350 Miles of Range

The GLC-class with EQ Technology joins Mercedes’s ever-growing electric lineup as a more mainstream offering that looks to sway the masses.By Jack FitzgeraldPublished: Sep 8, 2025bookmarks

  • The Mercedes-Benz GLC-class lineup is expanding with the introduction of the 2027 Mercedes-Benz GLC with EQ Technology.
  • The GLC EV rides on a brand-new platform with a longer wheelbase, unique sheetmetal, and fresh interior styling.
  • The GLC EV will be sold in two trims, with the first showing up in late 2026 and the second arriving in early 2027.

Mercedes-Benz continues to push itself into a new era. Most of the EVs the automaker has launched up to this point have been confined to the upper echelons of the lineup. The CLA-class EV is scheduled to break that mold when it goes on sale later this year. Now, Mercedes has just revealed its next mainstream EV, the 2027 GLC with EQ Technology, which will join the CLA EV in late 2026.

View Exterior PhotosMercedes-Benz

While some EVs are built on existing internal-combustion platforms, Mercedes developed the GLC EV entirely from scratch. Despite sharing a name with the combustion-engined GLC-class, everything from the wheelbase to the sheetmetal to the interior design is unique to the EV.

Still, that doesn’t mean Mercedes went to drastic lengths to differentiate the two, and the EV is still very much recognizable as a GLC from first glance. The most immediate discernible difference is the optional new grille that features a matrix design made up of 942 backlit dots. Along with the more attention-grabbing grille, the GLC EV is slightly larger: at 190.7 inches, it measures five inches longer from nose to tail than the gasser.

Two Trims, Two Powertrains

The GLC EV will come in two flavors. The GLC400 4Matic will reach customers first with a motor for each axle, giving it all-wheel drive. The dual-motor setup produces 483 horsepower and 596 pound-feet of torque, which Mercedes says is enough to launch the GLC400 to 60 mph in 4.4 seconds.

View Exterior PhotosMercedes-Benz

The GLC300+ launches second, and while it misses out on the 400’s front motor, it still makes a healthy 369 horsepower and 372 pound-feet of torque. Mercedes claims the rear-drive GLC EV will need 5.9 seconds to reach 60 mph.

Both models will be equipped with a two-speed transmission for the motor on the rear axle. The first gear has an 11:1 ratio, which should help with acceleration, towing, and efficiency, while the second gear has a 5:1 ratio to improve power delivery and efficiency at higher speeds.

Screens Galore

The star of the GLC EV’s interior is the latest version of Merc’s optional Hyperscreen. In the GLC EV, it stretches from A-pillar to A-pillar and measures 39.1 inches, making it the largest continuous screen Mercedes has ever offered.

View Interior PhotosMercedes-Benz

The display’s operating system supports the newest version of Microsoft Teams, and according to Mercedes, drivers can use the in-car camera even while the vehicle is moving to call in to meetings. In order to comply with local laws, the meeting’s video feed automatically turns off when the GLC EV starts moving, so while your boss can watch you driving, you can’t see them.

Customers who don’t want to fork over the extra cash for the huge screen will have to make do with a 10.25-inch digital instrument panel, a 14-inch center infotainment touchscreen, and a 14-inch screen mounted to the dash in front of the passenger. That’s still more than enough screen real estate, if you ask us.

Range and Charging

Both the GLC300+ and the GLC450 feature an 800-volt architecture and come fitted with the same 94.0-kWh lithium-ion battery pack. EPA range estimates for the GLC EV aren’t available just yet, but we expect an official rating of about 376 miles based on the more forgiving European WLTP estimate Mercedes provided.

View Interior PhotosMercedes-Benz

View Interior PhotosMercedes-Benz

That 800-volt architecture means GLC EV drivers will spend less time sitting at a charging station. The battery will surge from 10 to 80 percent in 24 minutes, Mercedes says, when hooked up to a suitable DC fast charger. If you’ve only got ten minutes to charge, Mercedes says you should be able to net 160 miles of range, based on WLTP estimates.

According to Mercedes, the new batteries were developed with maintenance and repair in mind. The electrical unit for the battery is accessible from below the car, meaning it can be fixed or replaced without ripping apart the entire battery.

The GLC400 will be the first variant to launch and should arrive in late 2026. The GLC300+ is scheduled to arrive shortly after in early 2027. Official pricing for the GLC EV pairing will be released closer to their on-sale dates. The GLC EV will square up directly against the recently revealed BMW iX3, which packs a 463-hp, all-wheel-drive powertrain good for around 400 miles of range.

Overview

It will look a lot like the regular gasoline-powered GLC-class SUV, but the electric powertrain hiding under the sheetmetal will set the 2027 Mercedes-Benz GLC-class EV on an entirely different journey. We’ve had a chance to test drive a prototype of the new compact electric crossover on frozen roads in northern Sweden, and its ride is smooth, its powertrain is perky, and its luxury experience is intact.

Two models will be offered—the single-motor GLC300+ and the dual-motor, all-wheel drive GLC400 4Matic—and both come with the same battery pack. Driving range for the GLC400 should be around 376 miles per charge, says Mercedes, but we don’t know yet what the range will be for the GLC300+. Both are spacious, upscale, and tech-forward, especially the models with the large 39.1-inch Hyperscreen that spans the full width of the dash.

Expert Tip: If you aren’t ready to leap into all-electric SUV ownership, Mercedes-Benz currently sells a plug-in hybrid version of the gas-powered GLC. We review that model separately.

What’s New for 2027?

The GLC-Class EV is a new addition to the Mercedes-Benz lineup. It slots in under the mid-size EQE SUV, and its naming convention marks a move away from the EQ prefix that Benz has used on its EVs so far.

We think upgrading to the Exclusive trim will make sense. It will add desirable features such as an illuminated grille, a panoramic glass roof with controllable opacity, ambient interior lighting, and a 14-inch passenger’s display. We imagine the single-motor GLC300+ will offer enough pep for most drivers, and it may also provide more driving range than the dual-motor model, but we’ll have to wait for details on that one before we can say for sure.

EV Motor, Power, and Performance

  • EV Motors: 369-hp single motor, 483-hp dual motor
  • Drivetrains: rear-wheel-drive, all-wheel-drive

The base GLC300+ gets a single electric motor that makes 369 horsepower and drives the rear wheels. All-wheel drive is available by upgrading to the dual-motor GLC400 4Matic, which offers a combined 483 horsepower.

A two-speed automatic transmission is onboard, but you don’t feel it shifting gears. Ride comfort is good, especially on the optional air-spring suspension system, which can also raise the GLC EV for more ground clearance should you decide to venture off-road.

0–60-MPH Times

  • Claimed 60-mph Time: 5.9 seconds (manufacturer estimate, GLC300+), 4.4 seconds (manufacturer estimate, GLC400 4Matic)

In Comparison: The GLC-Class EV’s primary rivals are the BMW iX3 and the Porsche Macan EV, and while the iX3’s 60 mph estimate is close to that of the GLC400’s at 4.7 seconds, the Macan EV 4S we tested managed to be quicker at 3.6 seconds to 60.

Towing and Payload Capacity

  • Max Towing: 5291 pounds

A trailer hitch is an optional extra, and Mercedes says that with it installed, the GLC400 model can tow up to 5291 pounds.

Range, Charging, and Battery Life

  • Estimated EV Range: 376 miles

Based on Mercedes-Benz’s range predictions for the GLC400 4Matic model, we expect its EPA range estimate will come in at around 376 miles. The company hasn’t revealed an estimated range for the single-motor GLC300+.

The GLC EV can charge its 94-kWh battery pack at up to 400-volt charging stations, which Mercedes-Benz claims results in adding 188 miles of charge in just 10 minutes. We look forward to testing this claim when we get our hands on an electric GLC.

Interior, Comfort, and Cargo

First Row: Premium materials are used throughout the GLC EV’s cabin, but it feels like there are too many screens and lighting elements. The overall look inside, especially when equipped with the optional Hyperscreen dashboard setup, is overwhelmingly digital. That said, the front seat area is comfortable and spacious, with plenty of storage cubbies and supportive bucket seats.

Second Row: The GLC EV’s back seat is roomier than its gas-powered sibling. There’s plenty of legroom, and even tall adults should fit just fine.

Cargo Capacity: The rear cargo bay is spacious too, at 20.1 cubic feet, which should be more than enough for a weekend’s worth of luggage or a family-sized grocery haul. If you need more space, there’s also a 4.5 cubic-foot front trunk.

Infotainment and Connectivity

  • Infotainment: 14.0-inch touchscreen (standard), 39.1-inch Hyperscreen (optional)
  • Connectivity: Bluetooth, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto
  • Audio System: 5-speaker stereo (standard), 16-speaker Burmester stereo

A 14.0-inch touchscreen with a separate digital gauge display is standard, but the optional 39.1-inch Hyperscreen is more buzzworthy and makes the dashboard almost entirely digital. Navigation, Bluetooth, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are all standard.

A 5-speaker stereo is standard fare, but a 16-speaker Burmester setup is optional and features Dolby Atmos spatial audio technology. SiriusXM satellite radio is included with all models.

Safety and Driver-Assistance Features

Mercedes-Benz includes many driver-assistance features as standard, but to unlock the most advanced tech, you’ll need to add MB.Drive Assist Plus or MB.Drive Assist Pro.

  • Standard Safety Features: automated emergency braking, lane-keeping assist, blind-spot warning
  • Optional Safety Features: adaptive cruise control with a hands-free driving mode

For information about the GLC-Class EV’s crash-test results, visit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) websites.

Warranty and Maintenance Coverage

Mercedes’ warranty periods align with other luxury automakers, such as Audi and BMW. However, unlike those German competitors, Benz-branded models don’t include any complimentary maintenance.

  • Limited Warranty: four years or 50,000 miles
  • Powertrain Warranty: four years or 50,000 miles
  • EV Component Warranty:10 years or 100,000 miles
  • Complimentary Maintenance: None
