Xpeng X9 Range-Extended Version to Launch This Q4 with Up to 1,400 km Range
RobertAug 12, 2025, 11:08 AM

【PCauto】Xpeng is set to launch its first extended-range hybrid model, debuting the new hybrid system on the Xpeng X9. It’s a smart move. In China, extended-range vehicles are mostly family-focused SUVs, like popular models from Li Auto, AITO, and Leapmotor. But Xpeng is taking a different route by introducing an extended-range hybrid MPV aimed at families.
The X9 extended-range keeps all the spaciousness and smart features of the X9 series. It offers more interior room and a more comfortable ride than typical SUVs.
Xpeng X9 Extended-Range Hits 6.8L/100km Fuel Efficiency
The Xpeng X9 extended-range version packs a 1.5-liter turbo engine with an impressive 40% thermal efficiency. Combined with a 210 kW electric motor, it delivers strong performance while keeping fuel consumption near 6.8L/100km when the battery runs low.
A standout feature is the retention of the pure electric model’s 800V silicon carbide high-voltage platform. This supports fast 5C charging speeds and keeps battery charging efficiency above 80% even at -10°C.
To meet Chinese drivers’ demand for electric range, the X9 pairs a small-displacement engine with a large battery pack. Its pure electric range hits 340 to 450 km (CLTC), and the extended-range system pushes total range up to 1,400 km.
X9 Grows Longer to Fit the Extended-Range Engine
Adding the extended-range system needed extra space, but engineers kept the length increase minimal, just 23mm longer than the pure electric version, now measuring 5,316mm. The wheelbase stays the same at 3,160mm.
Up front, a redesigned large active grille adjusts automatically for cooling. It keeps the range extender running efficiently while helping the car maintain a low drag coefficient of 0.28.

Hidden door handles and a floating roof design remain, while new 19- and 20-inch wheel options give buyers more ways to personalize their X9.
Engineers have also improved NVH performance, keeping cabin noise under 45 decibels when the range extender kicks in. That’s on par with the quietness of pure electric models.

X9 Cabin Builds on Pure Electric Version’s Strengths
Inside, a 21.4-inch central touchscreen paired with the Xmart OS 5.0 system delivers smoother human-machine interaction than the pure electric model.
A new 220V power outlet supports up to 3kW external discharge. Together with a car fridge that controls temperature from -5℃ to 50℃, it boosts the X9’s practicality for outdoor use.
The second-row zero-gravity seats get an upgrade to “Space Cabin 2.0,” adding shoulder adjustment and memory functions. Even better, the XNGP smart driving system is tuned for MPV needs, pushing automatic parking success in tight spots up to 95%.

X9 Extended-Range Takes on Denza D9 DM-i in Direct Competition
The Xpeng X9 extended-range version stands out with smarter tech and a stronger pure electric range compared to rivals. Xpeng’s VP of Sales said, “We’re targeting new middle-class families who want a tech-focused experience. They care about reliable range but won’t compromise on smart features.”
Internal forecasts predict the extended-range model will push X9 series monthly sales beyond 5,000 units in China, with this version making up around 60% of that figure.

Porsche releases the all-new track weapons 911 Cup and GT3 R
LienAug 11, 2025, 06:38 PM

【PCauto】Porsche recently unveiled two brand-new track vehicle models: the 911 Cup based on the 992.2 generation and the comprehensively upgraded 911 GT3 R.
These machines, built specifically for the racetrack, not only carry forward Porsche’s rich motorsport heritage but also showcase its technical prowess through multiple innovations.
Upgrades in Power, Appearance, and Braking
As the mainstay in Porsche’s one-make racing series, the 911 Cup has undergone a complete transformation. It is powered by a re-tuned 4.0-liter flat-six engine, now delivering a maximum output of 512 horsepower. Paired with an optimized six-speed sequential gearbox, the power delivery is more linear. Notably, the new model features an auto start-stop system for the first time—something rarely seen in racing cars.

In terms of aerodynamics, the three-piece front splitter design not only reduces collision repair costs by 40% but, combined with the newly added fender vents, increases front axle downforce by 15% during high-speed cornering.
Dr. Frank-Steffen Walliser, Head of Porsche Motorsport, said, “By thickening the front brake discs by 35mm and enlarging the cooling ducts, we have reduced brake fade to just 2% per hour under continuous braking conditions.”

Greater Performance at a New Level
Positioned as the higher-end model, the 911 GT3 R embodies an even more extreme pursuit of performance. Its 4.2-liter flat-six engine delivers 557 horsepower within the limits set by racing regulations. Paired with a newly designed swan-neck rear wing and Gurney flap, it generates over 1,200 kg of downforce at 250 km/h.

Chassis engineer Thomas Laudenbach explained, “By implementing a fully enclosed underbody design and optimizing the multi-link rear axle, we’ve improved rear axle stability in high-speed corners by 23%, which offers a significant advantage on tracks like the Nürburgring.” Additionally, the new model upgrades previously optional packages—such as the sensor package and endurance racing kit—to standard equipment, providing private teams with a more complete racing solution.

The 911 Cup and 911 GT3 R already competing worldwide
Both models feature an intelligent auto engine shut-off system that automatically turns off the engine when entering the pit lane speed limit zone. Tests show this can save up to 0.8 seconds per pit stop. The data acquisition system has also been upgraded—an enhanced GPS antenna combined with a detachable USB logger enables data collection at a precision of 200 samples per second, providing teams with more detailed information for fine-tuning.
The 911 Cup will continue to serve as the official car for the Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup and the Asia Carrera Cup, while the 911 GT3 R offers customers up to 60 customizable options.
Alexandre Gibot, Head of Porsche Motorsport Asia Pacific, revealed, “For the 2026 season, we will deliver more than 30 GT3 Rs to customers in Asia—double the number of the current model.”

As the wave of electrification sweeps through the automotive industry, Porsche’s decision to continue deepening its expertise in traditional combustion-engine racing is intriguing. Technologies proven in the demanding environment of the racetrack will ultimately benefit production models. According to internal sources, both race cars have begun testing at various circuits worldwide, with their first official race set to kick off in March 2026 in Dubai.
