Tesla to Launch Model 3+ Alongside Model Y L in China

【PCauto】Tesla isn’t stopping with the Model Y L. The company is also preparing to launch a new variant of the Model 3, known as the Model 3+. Both models have just appeared on the latest MIIT filing list in China, hinting at their upcoming release.

Model 3+ Could Become the Longest-Range Version Yet
According to the filing, the Model 3+ uses a rear-wheel-drive layout with a single motor delivering up to 225 kW of power. It’s equipped with a ternary lithium-ion battery, featuring cells supplied by LG Energy Solution (Nanjing), while the full pack is assembled at Tesla’s Shanghai plant.
Tesla hasn’t disclosed official range figures yet, but based on its powertrain and battery setup, many in the industry expect it to top 800 km on the CLTC cycle. If that’s true, the Model 3+ would take the crown as the longest-range variant in the Model 3 lineup.

Model 3+ Keeps the Same Size as the Current Model
Unlike the stretched Model Y L, the Model 3+ sticks to the same dimensions as the current Model 3. It measures 4,720 mm long, 1,848 mm wide, and 1,442 mm tall, with identical front and rear track widths of 1,584 mm.
Buyers will get two wheel options: 235/45 R18 or 235/40 R19, depending on their preference.
Model 3+ Targets the Missing Market Spot
The Model 3+ is expected to be priced at around 270,000 RMB, which translates to roughly 1,220,000 Thai Baht or 160,000 Malaysian Ringgit. That puts it right between the current Model 3 Rear-Wheel Drive (from about 139,000 MYR) and the Long-Range All-Wheel Drive (from around 169,000 MYR).
With this positioning, the Model 3+ offers a middle ground for buyers who want more range without going all in on dual-motor AWD.

The Model 3+ is currently listed on the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) platform for public review, with the announcement period running from July 17 to 23, 2025.
Following local industry norms, new models usually take one to two months to get ready for launch after completing the MIIT approval process. That means the Model 3+ could hit the Chinese market as early as September this year.
As of now, Tesla’s official China website hasn’t updated any info about the Model 3+ yet.
Tesla’s lineup in China now covers more ground, starting with the Rear-Wheel Drive version priced at 139,000 MYR, the new Model 3+ at 160,000 MYR, the Long-Range All-Wheel Drive at 169,000 MYR, and the high-performance variant at 200,500 MYR.
