All supercars are fast, some supercars are rare, but few enjoy the provenance and exclusivity of being called a true one-off, and the car we’re looking at today certainly fits that description rather well. This is a paint-to-sample 2015 Porsche 918 Spyder, one of just 162 U.S.-spec examples equipped with the track-focused, weight-saving Weissach Package, currently being offered by Chicago Motor Cars.
While the Porsche 918 is already pretty special, being part of the Holy Trinity club of hybrid hypercars that also includes the McLaren P1 and the Ferrari La Ferrari, this bespoke spec of this particular example makes it even more collectible.
While it features all the advanced tech and performance of the standard 918, the car features nearly $30k in optional extras, which include things like the front axle lift system, and acid green highlights on the seatbelts, piping, and brake calipers. While acid green is Porsche’s signature shade reserved for all its e-hybrid models, the grey black with Guards’ red color combination is a nod to the Porsche 997.2 Porsche 911 GT3 RS, with the Mezger-powered sports car, widely considered one of the last 911s of all time.
Underneath, the 918 retains one of the most sophisticated powertrains of modern times. A naturally-aspirated 4.6-liter V8 derived from the Porsche RS Spyder LMP2 race car, which revs to a staggering 9,150 rpm. Throw in two electric motors (one on each axle) means you have all-wheel drive, and the result is 887 horsepower and 944 pound-feet of torque. 0-60 mph is brisk at 2.5 seconds, with the top speed rated at 211 mph, and a Nürburgring time of under seven minutes. All this in a supercar that offers 12 miles of all-electric range and an impressive 67 MPGe.
But it’s the Weissach Package that truly brings even more exclusivity. The optional $84,000 (when new) high-performance track-focused package shaves 90 pounds off the standard 918’s curb weight of 3,690 pounds by employing lightweight components like magnesium center-lock wheels, titanium components, and extensive use of carbon fiber on the removable roof panels, spoiler, mirrors, and the windshield frame. To further improve aerodynamics, a new rear diffuser, along with additional aero blades in the rear bumper, has been used.
In the cabin, besides the green accents for the custom tailoring courtesy of Porsche’s Sounderwunsh (Special Wishes) division, the Weissach Package also brings lightweight Alcantara and even more carbon fiber on the dash, the doors, and the seats. This particular car also features the optional high-end Burmester audio system.
The original MSRP of this car when new was $962,160, but these days, 918s command big money for being one of the all-time-great Porsche halo cars. As for this particular car with its one-off PTS color and long list of optional extras, expect to pay a significant premium.
