Volkswagen Golf GTI EDITION 50 has been unveiled at a 24-hour endurance event at Nurburgring. The brand’s most successful compact sports car was presented as the most powerful production-ready Golf GTI. VW has also confirmed the model will enter the production phase by the end of this year in the Wolfsburg plant, and the deliveries for Golf GTI EDITION 50 will begin in Q1 of 2026, also being called the 50th anniversary year of the model since its official launch in the global market.

The more powerful iteration of the Volkswagen Golf GTI produces 325 PS of power output and 420 Nm of peak torque. So far, Volkswagen has sold over 2.5 million units of the Golf GTI sports car, and the 50th birthday of this iconic model is approaching next year, leading to the launch of an exclusive edition focusing more on performance, precision, and driving pleasure.
In an official press release, VW admitted that the Golf GTI EDITION 50 is the fastest and most powerful GTI the brand has ever produced. The brand has tuned its DCC sports chassis, adjusted the front differential locally, and ensured high-precision progressive steering for enhanced performance.

Sebastian Willmann, Head of the Chassis Development and Driving Dynamics Department at Volkswagen, stated that the team has built on the chassis technology of the legendary Golf VII GTI Clubsport and also added new semi-slick tires further to increase the grip level at the front axle while also maintaining neutral and agile handling.
In the performance test, a professional racing driver, Benjamin Leuchter, drove this compact sports car from Volkswagen at Nurburgring’s Nordschleife track and completed a round in just 7.46 minutes. This is impressive performance as the track measures 20.832 km in length and is also designed to check the drive performance and handling of sports cars.

The exclusive VW Golf GTI EDITION 50 is equipped with a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine borrowed from Golf GTI Clubsport with 300 PS output capacity. The VW team has tuned the engine further to achieve 325 PS of power output, offering better performance than the classic Golf GTI, which comes with a 265PS engine unit. The torque capacity has also increased from 400 Nm in the Golf GTI Clubsport to 420 Nm in the GTI EDITION 50.

The anniversary edition has a MacPherson front axle, a four-link rear axle, and a 15mm lower profile than the basic configuration. Also, the higher sprint rates have increased the natural frequency at the front and rear axles by 20%.
The Golf GTI EDITION 50 also comes with 235 Potenza Race semi-slick tires from Bridgestone on 19-inch Warmenau forged wheels and a lightweight R-Performance exhaust system with a rear silencer in titanium. While the new tire configuration offers more grip and less rolling resistance and is also 1.1kg lighter than standard tires, the rims weigh only 8kg and are about 3kg lighter than the standard 19-inch wheel in the classic model.
