The performance division of Mercedes has marked the entry into a new era with the debut of its first fully electric concept, AMG GT XX. The four-door GT concept is based on the brand’s new AMG.EA skateboard architecture. The platform is designed to ensure high power output and ultra-fast charging speed. While the upcoming AMG GT XX concept version looks competitive, there are still many years for the model to enter the production-ready phase. Automotive experts predict the model will get a final production-ready avatar by next year.

In terms of design, the GT XX looks similar to the AMG GT 4-door coupe, with some similarities to the Maserati, including a mouth-shaped grille. The model has a tapered rear with no rear glass. It also has six circular tail light units on the rear. Gordon Wagener, the chief design officer, has claimed that the element aims to mimic the quad exhaust tips found in gas models with the AMG badge.

Along with a unique design profile, the Mercedes AMG GT XX gets an all-wheel drive setup powered by three electric motors. One electric motor is fitted on the front end, while the remaining two power the rear wheels. Instead of regular radial flux units, Mercedes has provided a power-dense axial flux design for the electric motors fitted in this concept model. With this configuration, the EV can produce 1,341 horsepower and achieve a 360 km/h top acceleration speed.

It also has a new 800-volt electrical architecture and new battery technology. However, the battery specifications haven’t been revealed yet, but it is claimed to be a thin battery cell and comes with a dedicated cooling system.

Inside the cabin, there is a completely different environment compared to regular EQ models from Mercedes-Benz. One of the major upgrades is the elimination of massive hyperscreens covering the dashboard. Now, this functionality is handled by two large screens inside. This configuration is designed for a more driver-focused approach and the goal of offering a more minimalist pattern.
AMG claims that sustainable materials are used for the cabin, including synthetic leather that is developed using recycled rubber materials from GT3 racing tires. Moreover, the automaker has provided lightweight seats with carbon fiber structure and squared-off steering wheels inspired by race car cockpits.
