【PCauto】Toyota has unveiled the sixth-generation 2026 RAV4, which has not only made significant changes in appearance and interior, but also introduced the Arene software platform, enhancing the driving experience through software upgrades.

While the current RAV4 features a muscular exterior design, the 2026 model makes further improvements. Its new front fascia adopts a highly recognizable design. The C-shaped LED headlights are connected by a full-width light bar, creating a strong visual impact. In addition, the combination of mesh-style borderless grille at the center of front face and the ventilation opening in the lower surround, giving the vehicle a sophisticated appearance.

In the design of profile, the 2026 RAV4 shows clean, smooth body lines and meticulous design of the wheel arches, door handles, and mirrors. The redesigned rear quarter windows improve the visibility for backseat passengers.

At the rear, the vehicle uses a newly designed tail light, with a large number of vertical elements added inside the lamp cavity, delivering exceptional nighttime recognition when lit up. At the same time, the prominent “RAV4” badge on the tailgate highlights its identity.

In terms of body size, the new RAV 4 is 4595mm in length, 1854mm in width, and 1702mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2690mm. Compared with the current model, it slightly increases in length and width.

Additionally, the 2026 RAV4 lineup introduces both GR Sport and Woodland special editions.

The GR Sport version features a large-sized mesh grille, which is paired with aerodynamic side vents, darkened front/rear light clusters, exterior mirrors, and spoiler – creating a sporty aesthetic. Measuring 4,618mm long, 1,880mm wide, and 1,687mm tall with 20-inch alloy wheels and sport-tuned suspension, it delivers enhanced handling performance for drivers.

The Woodland version, on the other hand, is targeted at outdoor enthusiasts, with a large hexagonal air intake grille that integrates LED lights, enhancing night-time illumination. The vehicle comes standard with a rooftop luggage rack and all-terrain tires, highlighting its strong outdoor characteristics, with dimensions of 4618mm, 1880mm, 1722mm, the ground clearance is higher for better off-road capabilities.

Stepping inside, the 2026 RAV4’s completely redesigned interior shows an all-new aesthetic. The optimized seat comfort and space utilization, combined with an extended wheelbase, provide more spacious rear legroom to accommodate family travel needs. The cabin further enhances convenience and comfort with features like a head-up display (HUD) and wireless charging. Meticulous material selection and craftsmanship are evident throughout, with extensive soft-touch surfaces and precision stitching, creating a warm and enjoyable driving experience.

The center console is equipped with a 12.9-inch touchscreen running Toyota’s latest infotainment system, offering features like transparent image of chassis, wireless Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto. A 12.3-inch full LCD dashboard is used on the driver’s seat.

The 2026 RAV4 marks Toyota’s first implementation of the Toyota Arene software architecture, a platform developed by Toyota’s subsidiary Woven by Toyota. With the Arene software architecture, the 2026 RAV4 becomes Toyota’s first Software-Defined Vehicle (SDV), which can receive over-the-air (OTA) updates to enhance user experience and support the operation of third-party application.

The functions of the Arene software architecture also include advanced driver assistance system. The 2026 RAV 4 uses the latest Toyota Safety Sense 4.0 system paired with upgraded sensors, delivering comprehensive functions including full-speed adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist, and signal-initiated lane changing.

The 2026 RAV4 only releases hybrid power and PHEV powertrain options. The hybrid system combines a 2.5L gasoline engine with electric motors, delivering 226 horsepower in front-wheel drive models and 236 hp in all-wheel drive variants.

The PHEV version will further increase the maximum combined output power to 320 horsepower, equipped with a 22.7kWh battery pack, the pure electric cruising range under the WLTP test can reach 100 kilometers, which can meet the needs for daily commutes and short-distance travel. The PHEV also introduces DC fast charging function, allowing 10-80% charge in just 30 minutes.

Although there is no plan about the launch of the RAV 4 model in Southeast Asian, as an important model of Toyota, the actions of canceling fuel models and introducing the Arene software architecture have clearly indicated that the direction of Toyota’s new vehicles will move towards electrification and intelligence. Next time, there may be similar changes for the next-generation Camry in China.
