After Kia unveiled its proper pickup truck with Tasman, Hyundai Australia’s newly appointed head has confirmed to launch the brand’s own more rugged pickup truck in the coming years. However, there is no final confirmation when the Hyundai pickup truck will launch globally. Still, the brand is expected to reveal its production-ready version of a pickup truck in the next couple of years.

Like Kia and Hyundai have come together to bring a range of electric models to global markets, these automakers can now collaborate to bring all-new pickup trucks for Hyundai. According to reports, Hyundai’s upcoming pickup truck may be based on Kia’s Tasman. However, Hyundai Australia chief executive Don Romano announced that the carmaker has yet to confirm what pickup type it wants to manufacture.
It’s important to note that if the carmaker decides to use a body-on-frame like Kia Tasman, the pickup can soon be manufactured and rolled out. There is also a need to decide what kind of powertrain will be offered in Hyundai’s all-new pickup.
For instance, one of Korean carmaker’s latest generation EV platforms can support pickup trucks, but any vehicle built on this platform will be larger than the existing Tasman and other competitors like Toyota Hilux and Ford Ranger. There is also very limited demand for electric-powered pickup trucks in markets like Australia.
Additionally, Hyundai can rely on its recent partnership with General Motors. These globally renowned carmakers joined hands in the third quarter of 2024 to co-develop new vehicles. While the focus of the partnership remains undisclosed, there is potential that Hyundai can borrow the Chevy truck platform for its pickup.
