【PCauto】Recently, news about Tesla introducing a Model Y with the internal code name “E80” has sparked widespread attention.
According to insiders, this new vehicle is likely to be the Model Y Performance, though some believe it could also be a more affordable version of the Model Y.

From the limited information currently available, if this vehicle is indeed the Model Y Performance, its configuration upgrades are highly anticipated.
The previous Model Y Performance featured a maximum power output of 357 kW, paired with a 78.4 kWh ternary lithium battery, a CLTC range of 615 km, an official 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 3.7 seconds, a top speed of 250 km/h, and it came standard with 21-inch wheels.
Speculation suggests that the new Model Y Performance could be launched between July and September 2025, and is expected to feature a 357 kW dual-motor setup, with the same 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 3.7 seconds. It might also be equipped with a 95 kWh battery pack, offering a range exceeding 800 km, alongside potentially featuring an HW4.0 chip and an upgraded FSD system with 720 TOPS of computing power, further enhancing its autonomous driving capabilities.

However, some reports indicate that this vehicle may instead be a more budget-friendly Model Y. If this is the case, the configuration changes would be significant. This version could possibly adopt a smaller 50 kWh battery, reduce wheel and rim sizes, eliminate interior ambient lighting (or limit it to white), switch to single-layer side windows, and remove the panoramic roof. Additionally, the rear seat screens may be removed, the number of interior speakers could be halved, the seating material could switch to fabric without ventilation or heating features, and the trunk lid might change to a manual opening mechanism.
The currently available Tesla Model Y was launched earlier this year in January, with deliveries beginning at the end of February. Notably, sales in China have seen a year-over-year decline. As of March 30, the Model Y’s sales in China stood at 90,300 units, compared to 100,000 units during the same period last year.

In Q1 2025, Tesla’s global deliveries exceeded 336,000 units, with Model 3 and Model Y deliveries totaling 324,000 units, marking a 12.4% decrease during the same period from the previous year.
Not only in China, Tesla also experienced sales declines across most European countries in March and the first quarter. For instance, France’s deliveries in March totaled 3,159 units, down 37% year-over-year; the Netherlands saw deliveries of 1,536 units, down 61%; while Sweden experienced a 64% decline with 911 units delivered in March.
From a global perspective, Tesla’s situation is far from optimistic. Therefore, there is indeed a need for a more affordable model to boost sales. The automotive industry relies heavily on economies of scale, and insufficient sales can lead to increased manufacturing costs. If the Model Y (E80) turns out to be the budget version of the Model Y, it could be a pivotal product for Tesla in reviving its sales.
